There are a few things that stand out to me from the photos taken for our holiday card this year: 1. Wonder is a wonderful thing, 2. A great photographer makes all the difference in the world, and 3. Rolls.
We knew we wanted to send out holiday cards this year, particularly because we didn’t send out formal baby announcements, and so the plotting began.
What’s so funny about having a baby is that you take so many photos, but because it’s either Doug or I taking them, we literally had only a handful to choose from with the three of us in it. On that same note, most of the photos we have of Gracie were taken by our iPhones, which definitely does the job but doesn’t always leave for much to be desired from a photography standpoint.
We needed some photos to use, and we needed them fast.
I’ve long admired Danielle Moss’s photography and was ecstatic to hear that she’s now doing mini sessions, so we quickly scheduled time with her. The result was far beyond our expectations. How adorable is Gracie in these photos!? Those eyes. Those rolls. I’m so happy we invested to capture her in this way, because I know we’re going to blink and she’ll be grown. She’s already 6 months. I can hardly believe it.
This year has taught me many things, but the most apparent is the importance of taking a moment to stop and enjoy the moment. It’s funny (and a bit ironic) that the busiest year of my life was the one to teach me to turn off technology and start prioritizing “pausing.” I owe that realization to Gracie.
She’s taught me to let that to-do list sit for just another day. To smile big when someone you love walks into the room. To take long naps on weekends. To stare in awe at the Christmas tree. To wonder.
These photos of our sweet baby girl in all her roll-filled glory remind me of that wonder-filled mindset, and 2015 will always be the year that has grounded me in the importance of keeping that mindset as the years pass.
May you have a merry + bright holiday, filled with appreciating all the wonderment that the season, and life, has to offer. xx
