I’m going to borrow some wording from my friend Erin, who described Winter White so perfectly that it inspired this post.
Though I’m an avid lover of color in everything from decor to style, there’s nothing like well-placed basics. For winter, of course, that includes Winter White.
Erin recently described the color in a way that I could feel it, and I thought you may love to read her description, too. So, I grabbed a few snippets of her post to help me describe my feelings toward the photos pictured in this post.
There is no use in denying it, winter is here, but there is hardly anything more exciting than fresh snow. There is a sparkle to every surface and as the sun sets the world becomes this buttery white hue. Winter White is a specific color, it inspires feelings of coziness and familiarity with me.
I know not everyone loves winter but I happen to be a big fan. I love bundling up, I love the “smell” of cold, I love the brisk mornings. It is a time for staying indoors with family and friends. A time for hot chocolate and hot toddies. A time for casseroles and soups. Reading by fireplaces. Skiing. Sledding. Skating.
A time for resolutions and creating a new normal. Winter White means all these things.
Winter White is a Sunday without the TV on. Listening to jazz while making pancakes. Sipping on espressos and reading. Napping to the hum of the washer and dryer.
Winter White is what you make of it. It is meant to bring comfort and excitement. It means a fresh start. I couldn’t have said it better, Erin.
Doug and I shot these photos while at home in Michigan. I can’t help but look at them and smile as I remember the setting that surrounded us. It was the day after New Years and the snow was delicately falling. Outside it was silent, with the only competing sound against the air being the squishing of the snow beneath our footsteps. It was comforting, quiet and refreshing. A perfectly Winter White moment.

Horray for Winter White!! The outfit is perfect – I’m wearing a shirt that has the same pattern as that coat today :] I actually just read something yesterday in Eating Well magazine about the white foods of winters (pears, turnips, garlic) and realized I had left a whole sense off the table in the post! Pears are such a treat and they’re perfectly suited, no, paired for Winter White freshness. (do you appreciate punnyness?)
I am so in love with that jacket.. though I live in South Florida now I probably don’t need it, but you know.. it’s Anthropologie, sooooo I’m probably going to buy it 😉
