Moving Updates
Time is a weird thing. We’ve officially been in our house since the last week of October, which means we’re more than a month in. Which is crazy because it feels like it’s been a year and a day at the same time.
You know the first few nights in a new place, where it feels unfamiliar? I’d wake up frequently, being scared of even the smallest noise, but I no longer have that feeling. Yet, I’m still constantly looking for items to which I’ve forgotten where we’ve unpacked them or writing another item that we need on the list of pending purchases. A strange parallel of feeling more settled and yet there’s a long way to go!
One thing is certain: I underestimated how much work is required while unpacking/organizing/moving into a home. (I know, I know…as has been consistent with this entire process!) Sure, I knew it’d be a lot, but I didn’t anticipate how generally consuming it all is.
In short, I’m nesting hard.
Everywhere I look…every room I’m in…there’s something to do. Floors to clean, shelves to rearrange, and in multiple cases, entire rooms to set up. If I’m being really honest, it’s been hard to concentrate on anything other than home-related work here, so I’ve grown to be a regular at local coffee shops when I’m trying to get work done.
Because we moved from a tiny city apartment to a house, we’ve been able to start fresh on a lot. Lucky us, right?! Though it’s been a lot of work, it’s also been so much fun; it’s like we’ve had this blank canvas to create on. I’ve definitely discovered a newfound love with home decor and design!
So, those are our moving updates. We’ve done a ton of work, but are very much still going through the process. (As I’m sure you’ll see from the below!) We’re loving the house and feeling adjusted, but we still have lots to do to make it closer to “done.” (I put that in quotation marks because I hear from others that a home never really feels “done!”)
Most importantly, however, it’s really starting to feel like home. I’m excited to show it to you!
Updated Visual Home Tour
Below is the start of our updated visual home tour. (And, inherently, a little showcase of how we’ve decorated for the holidays!) Because of how many photos are included, I’ve broken this home tour into two parts: Part I (below) is all about the kitchen, dining room, living room, and girl’s bathroom. Part II showcases the bedrooms, master bath, and basement – check it out here.
In each room section, I’ve provided photos, and also a description of both the progress made and what still needs to be done. From the last home tour, I had some questions on sourcing products, so I’ve also provided a product listing for each room as well if you’re interested in shopping any of the items shown.
If you want to see how the house looked before it was fully renovated, definitely check out: Before + After Photos – Home Renovation Visual Tour. It’s amazing to see how far it has come!
All very much a work in progress, but I’m excited to be taking you along for the ride!
Kitchen
Kitchen Progress + To-Do’s
Progress: For the most part, the kitchen has been fully unpacked and organized. A huge win within itself!
To-Do’s: All artwork hung on walls. Rug for near the kitchen sink, and perhaps at the entrance of the kitchen. We’re also toying with bringing the glass subway tile all the way up the wall where the sink is, but that’s a project for much later.
Kitchen Product Details
White paint is “Bakery Box” by Behr.
Island barstools are the Luxor Counter Stool Set from Art Van Furniture. If you like the industrial look, you can also check out these options, or these ones too!
Hanging Pendant Lights are Allen + Roth Mini Clear Glass Jar Pendants. Here is a fun option that has three together! I also really love these versions.
Knobs: Metal + Glass Knobs – similar here.
Backsplash Tile: Snow Frost Glass Subway Tile with white grout.
Countertops: White quartz
Dining Room
Dining Room Progress + To-Do’s
Progress: We purchased the biggest item — our dining room table and chair set. We also have purchased the chandelier that will go over the center, though that needs to be rewired to be able to be hung in the center of the table.
To-Do’s: All artwork hung on walls. Rewire chandelier and hang in center of table. Updated plant hanger. Still not 100% sold on those all white curtains – I may look into something with pattern or even a different textile.
Dining Room Product Details
Blue paint is “Watery” by Behr.
Dining Room Table and Chairs – Flora 6 Piece Dining Set from Art Van Furniture. This set is similar, and there are a ton of really lovely options here if you like the mid-century modern look!Â
Rug – Torres Wool Kilim Rug. I love the moroccan style of this, but also that it’s a different pattern from those that you typically see. (You can see it in our old apartment here!) Shop similar style rugs at this link.
Chandelier – Brass Starburst Collin Chandelier
Table Runner – Hearth and Hand Table Running, prior season. Shop similar finds here!
Vase – A find from the last Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! Unfortunately they were sold out of this specific one. However there are lots of great glass vase finds here.
Living Room (AKA: Our “Pillow Fort”)
Living Room Progress + To-Do’s
Progress: Our area rug was one of my first purchases for this room – I saw it and immediately loved it! Other than that, there’s not much progress, beyond our shelving unit on the wall being somewhat set up. I’m working with one of my favorite furniture brands for this room, and all the items are being delivered in the beginning of 2019, so definitely stay tuned! It’ll be amazing.
To-Do’s: All living room furniture to be delivered and set up. All artwork hung on walls. Toy kitchen unit to be brought into basement. New pot for tree that’s currently in a crate (Lulz). Figure out what to do with the spacing/bay window area where the tree currently is.

First Floor Bathroom (Girl’s Bathroom)
First Floor Bathroom Progress + To-Do’s
Progress: Actually, this room is probably the most completed of our house! We have the shower curtain, rug, knobs and general set up almost completed.
To-Do’s: I’d still like to put something on the opposite side of the flamingo photo — perhaps a towel holder or another photo? Also need to put a photo on the wall next to the shower. Find a cool piece of artwork or item to put in place of the tree once the holiday season is over.
