I’ve been seeing a lot of talk lately regarding VEJA sneakers, and I thought I’d do a full VEJA sneakers review post so you can have context into what the hype is all about!
Why Are VEJA Sneakers So Popular?
It’s funny how things pick up steam, right? I’m not sure exactly how and when things started to really pick up steam for VEJA sneakers, but I do know the moment I personally heard of them. It was when Meghan Markle was seen wearing sneakers for the first time during a royal appearance. The royals really do have a big effect, don’t they?!
A few months later, many of my favorite retailers including Nordstrom and Zappos started to carry them. While I loved them, I didn’t really think twice about these shoes because it was right in the beginning of winter and cold weather in the Midwest, so I figured, “Eh they’ll get too dirty. I’ll wait.”
So I did. And then February rolled around. Suddenly spring was on the horizon and I finally declared, “IT IS TIME.” (Said in a Rafiki voice from the Lion King. If you got that reference, I’m assuming you’re on view #23,495 of Lion King like me, in which case…bless your soul.) Enter: These diddy’s into my closet.
Enough Blabber. Give Me The VEJA Talking Points.
First, the stats. (Recapped via this article from Good Housekeeping. Thanks, Boo!)
- VEJA is a French brand and was founded in 2005 and practices ethical decision making and sustainability right through its manufacturing process.
- The brand and sneakers pride themselves with fair trade, organic, raw materials.
- Sneakers are made from organic cotton, sourced from farmer associations that harvest cotton with respect for people and the environment. The cotton used is purchased directly by VEJA.
- Even chemicals are considered. VEJA tests their products to make sure they don’t contain any toxic elements that could end up polluting the environment.
- One of every four styles are vegan.
- Upcycling is also incorporated into VEJA’s production, with plastic bottles, cotton recycled from textile industry cuttings and recycled polyster used to create a range of fabrics used in the making of the shoes.
In short, it’s a brand you want to support.
What do you think now that you own a pair?
Alright. SO. Here’s my honest VEJA sneakers review.
They’re comfortable, but I will say that they require some break in time because they’re a little stiff at first. I’ve been breaking them in at home while I wait for the snow to clear outside, and as I move around in them, I find them more and more comfortable. I also played around with the laces and how tight they were, and have been bending the tongue occasionally to break that in too, which made a difference for me.
I’d compare them to how Converse sneakers fit. You definitely won’t want to go on a run in these, but they’re great for casual wear! So just note that as you’re purchasing and considering — what you wear these for will for sure matter!
Really, when it comes down to it, you’re going to get these for the style. Because the style of them is killer and literally looks good with everything. They just work! (PS – Would you be interested in me doing a “How to style VEJA sneakers” post, similar to the “Easy Tips To Wear A Shift Dress” post?) I’ve worn them with jeans, a dress, and skirts. They’re super versatile and I love how they bring a chic yet relaxed look to an outfit.
One note is that I did size up.
I bought mine from Shopbop, which had the shoes in European sizes, so even though I’m usually a 39 (Size 9 in US sizing) I went for a 40. These are just a *little* too big, but I’m keeping them because I personally prefer a looser fit. That said, I’ve read some reviews that note these have also run a little big for others. So take that into consideration while purchasing!
How much do VEJA sneakers cost?
My sneakers cost $150. Which, yes, is an investment. But considering the amazing things this brand is focusing on with sustainability, and how well made these shoes are, I think they’re worth it. Plus I know these are the type of shoes that I will wear day in and out once the weather warms up, making them something worth splurging on!
I personally love the black and white options with the pop of red on the back heel. SO CUTE.
What VEJA styles do you recommend?
I love the V-10 versions, which is the kind I have! But, I think in hindsight I would have gone with the black and white, just because the blush “V” on mine is a bit more faint than I thought it’d be. In the photos I’ve seen elsewhere, I love the contract of the black and white “V” options.
Definitely browse all the options, though! They’re selling out in a lot of places, so for ease of shopping, here are some places you can go to get them: Shopbop, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Zappos. (I always prefer going through those retailers because returns are easier/shipping is usually cheaper, but you can also just go through the VEJA site, too!) They have lots of cute colors and choices.

I love Veja. I discovered my first pair by accident, just saw them in the store. Would have been 2010 or so; I was living in Montréal at the time. I’ve bought a new pair just about every summer since. I’m a white/emerald type.
An early adaptor – I love it! I also really love the white/emerald – such a fun combo.
Need to get these ASAP!! Love how you styled them 🙂
Thank you so much Sola! Love these shoes, they’re so comfy!
I just bought some veja sneakers and have been googling how best to break them in. I love the sneakers but the tongue is killing me! You gave me some hope that they will eventually get broken in. Phew!
Oh yes, the tongue is definitely stiff at first! Washing mine actually helped too, as did breaking them in with wear. Mine are super comfy now! Best of luck!
Thanks for the rundown! How well do they hold up over time? I am very interested but don’t want to have to buy a new pair in a year and a half.
So far, so good! I wear mine all the time and they’re in great shape still. Very high quality. Hope that helps! 🙂
I’m interested in buying these but there are so many styles… Also, how is the arch support? I have wider feet and low arches, do you think these will provide enough support?
Hm – Hard to say because I have very narrow feet! BUT in terms of arch support, I will note that the overall sole is pretty stiff. Objectively, I’d swing by somewhere like Nordstrom and try them on first to make sure!
First time on this website, and while the content is good, I don’t think I will be back. I lost my eyesight reading this. Letters are too small, and the font is too thin for white background. Lousy design.
Thanks for your feedback!
Do these make your feet look really long? I’m a 9 as well and I’m concerned they will make my feet look like boats! I was thinking the Veja Rio Branco may be a better choice for big feet? What do you think?
I have what I’d consider big feet – size 9.5 – and I personally don’t think they look too long! But that’s all personal preference, I suppose. Hope that helps?!
These are very cute!
