Dress: Topshop Floral Dress. The cut outs are a little ohh-la-la! This dress would be so cute for holiday parties, especially while paired with something edgy like a leather jacket. If you like the idea of a floral option in fall/winter, the Boomer Midi Dress is also so cute! | Shoes: Everlane Day Heels

The older I get, the more I think that a little sass is a big win.
I’m referring to the type of sass that’s cheeky, not stand-offish. The kind that’s lively. Bold. Confident. The “pop-your-hip-because-damnit-you-look-good” kind. Full of spirit.
That kind of sass is definitely different and should not be confused with the impudent kind.
In conversations, I always think that people who bring it are so fun to talk to. They’re refreshing; they have a point of view. A point of view, I’m learning, is a gift, and one that should be celebrated. I admire those types of people for their confidence and boldness.
I used to be afraid of sass.
Intimidated by the stance. Any stance. I never wanted to offend; to rock the boat. “Be the nice girl,” they said. And you know what? I act nice because I am nice. But I’m realizing that nice doesn’t have to mean holding back your thoughts, opinions, and personality. Your boldness should shine. That’s just being nice to yourself.
So, I’ve been trying to embrace my inner, “Hey this is me and if you don’t like it…that’s cool” mentality lately. Sass.
I’m not sure if it’s getting older, or simply realizing that there’s no point in trying to have everyone like you because that’s an impossible feat, but I’m simply not afraid of all that silly minutiae anymore. If I have an opinion, I’m going to say it. (Respectfully, of course. And by the way, if you disagree, that’s okay, and I’d love to hear your point of view because I’ll probably learn something.) If I like a dress, I’m going to wear it. (Even if it has cut-outs in winter.) If I want to take look ridiculous while taking photos with my tripod in 30 degree weather and smile like I’m having fun while doing so, then you know what? HERE I GO. (Evidence: This post. Ha!)
To me, sass is owning that I’m imperfect, and that even amongst that imperfection, I still have the right and ability to be confident. How empowering is that notion?
All this is to say…Don’t be afraid to embrace your inner sass, too.
Wear the dress. Go after the idea. Speak your mind. Enable yourself to express you…no matter who that you is. It’s okay! It’s welcomed.
…And anyone who doesn’t appreciate that in you, doesn’t deserve a second thought. Pop that hip as you walk away from their negativity.
Go forth and be proud.
Side note: If you’re thinking that this dress is too “Spring” for the time being…think again! I consider this one to be perfect for year round. The black undertones make it appropriate for winter, and while it’s certainly not winning awards for being warm, you can layer it like a champ with coats and even a cute, chunky sweater. Also, these Everlane heels are some of my favorites, are super comfy, and come in a ton of different colors. Things to consider as you gear up for holiday parties!
Speaking of the holidays, get ready for lots of gift guides coming your way! I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes and have so much amazing holiday content coming your way, starting later today. Yeehaw!
