Tomorrow marks 35 weeks down. 5 or less (Maybe more?…Hopefully not more!) to go.
Can you believe it?! I can not. For one, we’re not ready. With Grace in particular, we were all set and ready to rock by this time. With Josephine, we were pretty far along. But with the third baby…we’ve got to get our act together. Ha! (I heard this is common and not to feel bad!) The biggest things we need to do are to complete the nursery, and in general get our stuff organized. Both of these require harnessing all the third baby essentials that we’ll no doubt need for the upcoming months!
We recently sat down and went through all that we have for baby, and all the things we may need. Luckily, a ton can be used from Grace and Josephine’s baby days! But there are definitely third baby essentials that we made a wishlist around. (Side note: the baby industry is a wild thing and there’s so much that wasn’t even around when the girls were young!)
My sweet cousin and aunt are throwing a little baby “sprinkle” for me this weekend, and I thought it’d be timely to share what’s currently on our list! I’m not going to include things like clothing on here, because thats a given, right?! Also not going to include nursery decor on here, because let’s be honest, that stuff is really not needed as much as it’s wanted by mama. ๐
Here we go!
Third Baby Essentials: Our Wishlist For Baby Boy
A Few Noteworthy Essentials We Kept From Our First Two Babies
Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier
Definitely our most used carrier! Josephine basically lived in this her entire first year – ha! So helpful for having both a baby and a toddler.
Dohm White Noise Sound Machine
The girls STILL sleep with their Dohm Sound Machine every night. We do too, now! It soothes so well and I also like that the white noise sound is adjustable.
Medela Pump In Style Breast Pump
My bestie from when I breast fed Josephine! I went back to work at 3 months, and was able to keep providing breast milk until she was 8 months, with my trusted Medela Breast Pump in tow. Love this thing!
Boppy
Both Grace and Joey loved this thing! Great for lounging and hanging.
Motorola Video Baby Monitor
We have a camera in Grace/Joey’s room, and we’ll have one in baby’s room, too! I like that we can have two cameras that feed into one monitor. We’ve had this one since Grace was a baby and it’s been great!
Rocking & Reclining Glider
We got our glider when Grace was a baby and it’s proven to be the best investment piece for a nursery! So many late nights spent on this thing. Ours both rocks and reclines, which I definitely recommend.
4-In-1 Crib
Another one that is a great hand-me-down from Grace and Joey! We opted for white, which will definitely work for baby boy. Ours is still in pretty good shape; this 4-in-1 Crib is similar to the one we have.
Alright, now let’s get to the third baby essentials that would be new to us this time around!
Third Baby Essentials
Snoo Smart Sleeper Bassinet
Soo apparently this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Snoo Smart Sleeper Bassinet definitely wasn’t around (Or, at least I didn’t know about it) when Grace and Josephine were infants. It promises to calm crying and promotes better sleep. If I remember anything from the newborn days, it’s that sleep is COVETED and also rare. It’s an investment but I’m thinking this is most definitely worth it for a much happier baby AND mama.
Moses Basket Bassinet
Okay — I know I sound crazy for wanting two bassinets. BUT Josephine in particular slept in her bassinet for a long time, and I do think having a few options would be nice! The Snoo Smart Sleeper seems to be great for night sleep and to set up in our room, but I think a moses basket bassinet would be great for day time sleep because it’s so portable. I love that the baby could be taking a nap right next to me while I’m working in his little bassinet basket. The aesthetic freak in me also loves how it looks – ha – and I also love that this bassinet can be used as a general basket when the baby grows out of it.
Baby Jogger Infant Car Seat
Sure, we have an infant car seat from Grace and Josephine. But after two babies using it, let’s just say it leaves much to be desired in the cleanliness department! Lots of stains, lots of wear. We’re still going to leverage the old one we have as a back up option (And because, unlike our lives in the city, we now have two cars!) however we’re going to be getting a new infant car seat for baby boy.
This time around, we’re going with the Baby Jogger City GO Car Seat. We fell in love with Baby Jogger when we got one of their strollers after having Josephine — their products are super intuitive to use, non-bulky, SAFE, and modern.
Baby Jogger Double Stroller
Okay, so yes, we already have the City Select, which we love! But Grace has outgrown it, and now that we’re not in the city, we actually prefer a stroller with side-by-side sitting for Josephine and the baby. So we’re going with the City Tour Double this time around! (There’s an adaptor where you can connect an infant car seat to the stroller – yeehaw!)
Keekaroo Peanut Changer
I can’t tell you how many diaper blow outs we encountered when both girls were infants! They leave for a very messy clean up — not just for baby but also what you change them on. Read between the lines: LOTS OF LAUNDRY! I love that the Keekaroo Peanut Changer doesn’t require cloth covers and can easily be wiped clean. Game changer!
Dock A Tot
Another thing that wasn’t around from before! My bestie just had twins and SWORE by her Dock A Tots. They’re good for lounging, tummy time, naps, and more. These covers are an essential to pair with it, to keep the Dock A Tot nice and protected!
Little Giraffe Baby Blanket
These blankets are STILL Grace and Josephine’s favorites. They’re super soft and great quality. When the girls were infants, we used these for tummy time a lot, or to cover them while they were in their car seats on chilly days. Definitely would love one for baby boy, too!
Safari Playmat
We have a bright pink one from the girls, and while I really don’t think baby boy will care, I would like to get him something a bit more gender neutral. ๐ His room is going to be a safari theme, and I thought this one was adorable to pair with that theme!
Medela Breast Milk Storage Set
Doug and I got into a great groove with both girls where he’d take a feeding or two per day, which was nice because I could get a little break here and there, and they got used to bottle feeding/someone other than me feeding them. I’d love this Medela Storage Set to help me pump/store as applicable. (I noted this in the section where I talked about essentials we kept from before, but I have to say I love my Medela Breast Pump!)
HALO Sleepsack Velcro Swaddles
I remember velcro swaddles being so essential for our girls — I was always so worried about them kicking out of loose blankets. The HALO Sleepsack is great because it’s a 2-in-1 — a swaddle AND blanket.
Boppy Nursing Pillow
I plan on breastfeeding for as long as I can – the Boppy Nursing Pillow looks like a great option for support.
Baby Bjorn Bouncer
We got rid of our massive, bulky bouncer because it just took up so much space in storage. To replace it, I want to go with this sleeker bouncer version — the Baby Bjorn Bouncer. You can adjust this high for playing, and low for resting. All while offering rocking support for the little one. I’ve had many friends give rave reviews about this!
Moby Classic Baby Carrier
We love our Baby Bjorn carrier, but sometimes you want a more cuddled and snug fit! I’ve read amazing things about the Moby Classic Baby Carrier and am eager to give it a try. I can see this being great for around-the-house days with baby.
Dr. Browns Bottles
Every baby is different, and every baby likes different bottles! Though I’m planning on breast feeding, I do want to make sure Doug takes a feeding or two every day to get the baby used to bottle feeding, too. Dr. Browns bottles came highly recommended and I know it’s also what our local hospital uses! We also have some Mam bottles from before that our girls liked that we’ll try.
Aiden + Anais Burp Cloths
We used these religiously with both girls! I remember almost always having one draped over my shoulder. Of course, they get a bit…gross. So we’re getting baby boy his own set! Love the Aiden + Anais brand because the cloths are soft, durable, and absorbent.

We LOVE the Zutano booties (my little chicken legged guy cannot kick them off and they stay on, unlike socks) and the Love to Dream swaddle.
Ohh amazing – NOTING THESE!!! Thanks for the recos!
Love your wishlist! Baby Bjorn bouncer is worth every cent! Definitely got use out of it for the longest during that first year. I also second on the Zutano booties from above! One comparable I have is for the changing pad- we got the Hatch Baby one with our second and it doubles as a scale, which is nice! Thereโs an app that it connects to and I found it helpful for feedings, etc. Looks VERY similar in size and color, same wipe clean feature and I believe itโs pretty close in price. Excited for you! ๐
Thanks so much for these recos – super helpful!
