I’ve been fortunate to travel to many places in my life thus far. Between studying abroad in Rome, riding camels in Egypt, snorkeling in Mexico and maneuvering white water rapids in West Virginia, I’ve learned how to properly pack for pretty much any trip you can think of.
In my recent Washington D.C. weekend getaway, I managed to wear only a few items from my suitcase the entire time. Let’s not talk about the fact that I didn’t check the weather, thought it’d be 80 and sunny, and was met instead with moody weather. Luckily, my keen packing skills left me with outfit options despite inadequate mental preparation.
The key to packing for any adventure is layering, neutral colors, and a bag that can hold plenty. If you pack neutrals, anything in your luggage goes together. Want some color? Throw in a few scarves, fun accessories, and red lipstick. Don’t worry about matchy-matchy outfits and creating the perfect look.
Traveling should be carefree, after all. Though I certainly understand wanting your shoes to match your bag, leave that behind for a time when you don’t have the world to see. That’s a problem for a smaller day – your adventure should always have grander plans than what’s on your body.

Hey pretty lady! Loved these tips–I do NOT pack light at all, so I definitely need to take a page out of your book.

cutie!!! And that is sound advice…I generally pack items that are all of a similar palette and can easily mix & match. I know myself too well – I want options! And if it all goes together I have plenty of options 🙂 XO Brynn
This look is amazing! I am a huge fan of neutrals too- with a few stripes chucked in for good measure! xx
I was happy to read this and see that I follow a lot of the same rules! Depending on where I’m going I always either have a giant bag (to hold my whole life) or a teeny-tiny bag (so I’m forced to only have the necessities)… I probably should find a middle of the road bag but either way I’ve found that bag sizes are really important based on the activity!
classic pieces and neutrals are great items to pack for a trip!! use accessories to change the outfit up a bit!
I.LOVE.THIS.LOOK. so up my alley! Classic, simple, and chic!~!!!

Great tips! I am a notorious overpacker. I never wear half of the items but I pack them still!
I love your hair!
I need to save these tips for my next adventure – I am the world’s worst packer. Your adventure outfit is my go-to for adventuring in my own city, but as soon as I start throwing clothes in a bag, all my logic goes out the window.

Fabulous tips, and I love what you said about your adventure having “grander” plans than what you’re wearing!
