It’s weird how hair becomes a part of your identity. Your face stays the same and yet this mound of stands frame, shape and accentuate your features, giving comfort and confidence that, yes, the hair you wear is perfect for you.
Long hair has been a part of my look for years. Sure, the actual length has varied quite a bit, but “long” has always been a predominant descriptor. For me, long hair was a comfort zone in which longevity was the main proponent behind keeping it.
I met a girl last summer who was diagnosed with cancer shortly after we met. We crossed paths again around Christmas, and chemotherapy had taken all her hair. She rocked her bald head with utmost confidence and she looked absolutely stunning while doing so.
After seeing her inspiring reaction to losing her hair, I looked at my long ‘do and immediately thought of Locks of Love. I wanted to do something to help, and after researching the organization more, I was set. Locks of Love is a non-profit that provides hairpieces to children who’ve lost their hair, to help them gain self esteem as they face cancer and the world. And so I set out to grow my hair longer, to where 10 inches would be plenty, and reached the point of cutting it all off last night.
My new, shorter style is definitely going to take some getting used to. But I was encouraged when the woman behind the counter said, “You look like such a lady”. I smiled, satisfied, and also happy knowing that perhaps my donation will make a brave girl feel like a lady down the road.
Oh, and I’m happy to report the amazing woman I’m referring to kicked cancer’s ass and is now in remission.

This looks so cute on you! One of my best friends grows her hair out each year (or every 2 years) and donates it to Locks of Love, too!

What an amazing organisation Locks of Love is! I went to their website to get some more background information. I don’t know if anything similar exists here in Germany.
You look fabulous with shorter hair!
