**This post was initially published last year, however I’m re-publishing it because lately I’ve been LIVING in my Mother Jeans, pictured here. They’re the perfect stretch, I love the step-hem ankle, and they’re comfortable even for days at home. Gotta love finds that you adore for the long term, right?!
My First Pair of Step-Hem Mother Jeans
In a groundbreaking Mother jeans discovery, I’m sharing some of the best jeans that I’ve found recently.
First, a little background.
I admit, it took me longer than others to jump on board the step hem ankle jean trend. I’m honestly not sure why, because I really love the laid back look of them. Perhaps it’s because, as someone who’s 5’10, for my whole life I’ve battled never having jeans long enough. Finding pants that fit has always been a struggle; I have memories of middle school Emily in pants that (unintentionally) showed my ankles and the constant “pull down your pant legs and walk odd while doing so” effect that came with it. Wasn’t cute! So to buy a fit that intentionally hits at my ankles felt…I don’t know…counterintuitive?
I finally gave in, and am so happy I did. Because, you guys. I LOVE THESE MOTHER JEANS SO MUCH. Sorry to yell, I just feel very passionately about them.
How Very (Un) Motherly Of You
Why are these so amazing? Let me count thy ways.
Okay so for one, I don’t think the cool factor of these jeans can be ignored. They’re effortless, a little bit indie, and they have a way of seeking an adventure when you put them on. Even if you’re just doing day care drop off like me. (Maybe it’s just me, but don’t they look like you’re just waiting to say “Yes” to that invite?!)
The step hem is frayed, and I’ve noticed gets just a little more distressed every time I wash them. Again, playing into that carefree and effortless vibe.
Fit wise, these are exceptional. They’re a super soft denim that is a bit stretchy, making them very comfortable, but they’re form-fitting (in the right ways) and flattering too. I feel like I could do yoga in them. Maybe I will one day.
I went to the brand’s website and checked out why the name “Mother”, by the way. Here’s what they said: “The name MOTHER plays off the idea of duality – it can be nurturing or a cuss. It evokes unconditional love and teenage rebellion all at the same time. The brand’s attitude and collections always present a juxtaposition of hard and soft.” FITTING for these jeans. (Pun intended.)
More Outfit Details
These jeans can be worn so many different ways, as all jeans can, but on this particular day I kept it simple. I paired my Mother jeans with a soft Madewell Whisper Cotton Crew Shirt, which definitely falls into that “effortless” category with these jeans. Spring is still rolling into Michigan, so I wore a utility jacket over the top. For accessories, I layered the Starburst Coin Pendant Necklace + Chloe Mini Necklace with a long gold chain from a prior season (But you can shop more great layering necklaces here!) My heels are the Rockport Total Motion Pointy Toe Pumps and are probably some of the most comfortable heels I’ve worn — they have padding on the bottom that makes them feel like you’re walking on a cushion!
