To Crop Top Or Not To Crop Top? That Is The Question.
You know those clothing items that you’re completely unsure of at first, but once you try it out, you become its biggest fan? That’s how I was with crop tops recently.
They’re kind of intimidating, no? I admit that when I first was browsing for crop tank options, I kept questioning whether they’d look okay on me, and also whether I should be wearing them as a mom in my 30s. But, here’s what I’ve come to realize about crop tanks: They’re not only age-appropriate and fashion forward, but they’re also very flattering when you wear them the right way. In fact, I would go as far as saying they’re one of my most favorite styling hacks lately.
My Favorite Way To Style A Crop Top
So, what’s the secret sauce? Style a crop tank with something high-waisted.
When worn with high waisted skirt, shorts or pants, they have the opposite effect of what you may think — they’re slimming. This is because they help to bring the eye to and accentuate the smallest part of your waist.
It’s not the crop tank look of the Britney-Spears-in-her-prime days, when the combination of crop tanks with low-rise shorts and pants would end up being unflattering for most. The high rise bottoms check off on covering up the lower half of your stomach (and typically the area I personally don’t want to show off), while the crop tank brings structure to the top. The result is that you actually end up showing just a little skin, but not too much, so it’s a great pairing for anyone in warmer weather who wants to rock the look while still feeling confident.
Here’s the net, net for me: Would I ever wear this with something low-rise? Heck no. Do I love this paired with high-rise shorts or a skirt? Heck yes! This is not to say that they can’t be worn with something low rise or a way that shows off more of your stomach, if that’s what you prefer. And, hey, more power to you if that’s the case! It’s just a great option for those who are like me and want to wear the crop tank look without feeling like I’m showing too much.
15 Crop Top Options To Shop Now
Looking for some great crop top options? I’d recommend to try out a neutral color first — something black or white — because they can most easily be mixed and matched with many things. I really love the white crop top I’m wearing in these photos, and I also love this black ribbed option, too! Here are some options to shop now that would be great all summer long.

Totally agree that crop tops are so much fun and high waist bottoms are the way to go to make them “age appropriate” if you’re an adult lol. Love how you styled this one!
