This week was a big one, as we all know. Election Day. It’s always one in which I’m a nervous wreck; butterflies in my stomach, nails a mess from picking at them (bad habit, I know), eyes glued to the poll updates online and tv.
I know, I know. You’re not following this blog to read about politics. But I constantly struggle with the notion of having a blog, and thus a platform for sharing, and the balance of what I should or shouldn’t share here.
However, today’s topic is one that I actually see as totally nonpartisan. Whether you’re right or left, red or blue (or sometimes find yourself somewhere in between, like I do), something happened this election that I think we can all agree upon and celebrate. Women shattered ceilings, broke records, and made history.
Ready for some powerful stats? (Source credit for the below goes to CNN.)
There will now be 100 women serving in the House, breaking the previous record of 85. 38 of them are women of color, which breaks the prior record of 34. (Not nearly enough, but still.) The House will now have its first two Native American women, and for the first time in US history, two muslim women will be in Congress. (One from Michigan!) The first Korean-American woman was elected to the House. Tennessee now has its first female senator. Iowa now has its first female elected governor AND its first female members of congress. We now have the youngest woman ever – 29 years old – serving on the House of Representatives. There will now be at least 9 female governors. The list goes on.
These numbers are small, yes, but the point is that they’re there. To all those who ran – to those who won AND lost – thank you for showing up. I’m so proud of you!
Let’s hear it for the ladies!
I’m doing a little happy dance over here. Whether you vote red or blue, I think we can all agree that this week was a step in the right direction for female empowerment and having a seat at the table.
The efforts made by these trailblazers should be applauded, and so I’m over here in my little internet corner doing so! And what better way to celebrate than with pink?! Call it a coincidence, but I think mother nature was joining in too, because the landscape decided to match my theme. (More outfit details below!)
I can’t wait to see what’s next.

How To Style Pink Pants
These pink pants are so fun. I actually wore them as a part of my Iris Apfel Halloween costume and decided to keep them because why not?! (The Madewell Paperbag pants are also super cool for a more casual look. Also love these belted eyelet trousers!) I paired them with my new favorite blouse – the Atlantic Pacific + Halogen wrap blouse – which I genuinely can’t get enough of! My boots are Vince Camuto white booties, which I’ve been loving for fall. My leopard belt is J.Crew past season, but you can shop lots of fun animal print accessories here!
