Fun fact: We’ve been apple picking 3/3 of the past weekends.
Yes, friends, it’s true. And if that doesn’t showcase just how basic I can be, I don’t know what does. In my defense, with COVID in mind, we’re really only comfortable doing things outdoors. Since we’ve been to every local park 230,493,985 times this year, the apple orchards have been a nice change of pace.
Of course, all that apple picking has resulted in, well, apples. So. Many. Apples. More than we know what to do with! So this past weekend, I decided to get a little CrAzY and try my hand at baking. I whipped up some homemade oven baked apple chips, and I don’t mean to brag, but…they were AMAZING. Just the right amount of sweet, and for good measure, a little savory, too. Here’s the (super easy!) recipe!
Homemade Oven Baked Apple Chips Recipe
Ingredients
- (6) Apples. We had a mix of McIntosh & Red Delicious, but you can use whatever apples you prefer!
- (1) Tablespoon Cinnamon
- (2) Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
- (1) Dash of lemon juice
- (1) Dash of salt
Directions
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
- Core all the apples and cut them into slices of approximately 1/8 inch thick. To keep the beautiful star shape such as what’s found in McIntosh Apples, simply cut them into their slices and remove the seeds as applicable.
- Once all the apples are cut, mix the cinnamon, sugar, lemon juice and salt together. Gently stir in the mixture with the apples, so that all apples are covered.
- Spray cooking sheet with cooking spray or lay parchment paper down. Lay all the apples flat.
- Cook for approximately 1.5 hours, checking every so often. Depending on the apple variety, the cook time may vary. The goal is to get the apples nice and hard, like a chip!
- After fully cooked, remove and enjoy!
These homemade oven baked apple chips taste perfectly fall, and are a great option for when you have an abundance of fruit! They also make great gifts — we put together some goody bags of the apple chips and gave them to family members.
