Ready to crop it like it’s hot!?
(…Sorry, I had to. The pun was just too seamless there to pass it up.)
Today I’m excited to share one pair of pants, styled two different ways. A day look — more relaxed and ready for anything — and a night look — a bit more elevated and yet still approachable.
The item: black crop pants. Here I’m wearing Stella Trousers by LACAUSA. (Similar: Love these Wide-Leg Crop Jeans from Madewell!) The darling team at Good Neighbor Detroit kindly let me come in, browse their selection, and style some items that I had my eye on. The below outfits are the result! (Both the “Detroit” shirt and the evergreen blouse are via the store as well.)
I love crop pants because they’re one of those closet items that just work. Like, for everything. Farmer’s Market on a weekend morning. Going out to dinner. Running errands. Heading to work. Working from home. Throw them on, pair them with items that play into the vibe you want, and there you go!
Here are a pair of black crop pants, styled two ways, to give you some ideas on how to wear these closet staples. Which do you like best? (Big thanks to Good Neighbor Detroit for the styling love!)
Styling Black Crop Pants For Daytime Wear
In my daytime look, I paired black crop pants with a simple white “Detroit” tee. I love the embroidered lettering on it – a nice little wink to the city. (All proceeds from the tees benefit Pontiac-based organization, Humble Design, FYI!) You guys know that VEJA sneakers and I are besties, and they’ve come through with a win yet again with this look. I love how these sneakers bring a coolness vibe to these pants, especially since these are the type of pants you’d usually find in a work setting, so it’s a bit more unexpected.
I always love playing with juxtaposition while styling. Because the rest of this look was so relaxed — a casual tee and sneakers — I added my Tory Burch purse (similar here) that’s a bit dressier. However, really any purse or accessories can go with this look! It’s a total play on the classics.
Styling Black Crop Pants For Nighttime Wear
In my nighttime look, I paired black crop pants with a loose-fitting blouse, tucked in. Having this tucked in is key for this look, because the pants are wide leg and thus the look is most flattering when you can pair it with items that define your waistline.
For accessories, I paired my favorite leopard headband with statement earrings. I thought *maybe* they would be too much together – and if you’re more conservative, do one or the other – but I do think that when you have an outfit that has very simple tones like this — black and evergreen — it’s fun to add a little jazz hands because why not?!
For shoes I wore classic black heels to elevate the look, and my hair was thrown into a high, messy bun. The headband and earrings somehow make the bun dressy, no? Again, juxtaposition. Makes for a more interesting look!
Which look is your favorite — day or night? I personally am more partial to the daytime look, because it was so comfy to wear.
Be sure to swing by Good Neighbor Detroit if you’re in the area – it’s the cutest shop right near the Shinola hotel!
