“Llama Llama” Themed Baby Shower
A few weeks back, I helped to host a baby shower for Jessie, one of my best friends since high school. Jess is having twin baby girls (AHH! Future besties with Grace and Jo, obvi) and we were ecstatic to help shower her with love. The theme? Llama llama!
The theme we chose was so much fun to lean into with decor. We had succulents and flowers throughout the house, authentic Mexican food catered by Regina’s Food Truck, and lots of llama touches throughout. It was a couples shower so we wanted everything to be very laid back, and yet filled with lots of fun. Overall, we wanted to show Jessie and Tom how much we love them, and the two little llamas on the way!
How To Make A DIY Floral Balloon Arch
One of my favorite parts decor-wise was the backdrop that we created for the party. We wanted to have a central focal area that would house the main activity – a “Baby’s First Alphabet Book” that the guests would help fill out — and also all the desserts and sweets. Thus, a DIY Floral Balloon Arch was born! While it may look complex, I promise this was actually pretty easy. The instructions are below.
Materials
- Assorted latex balloons. We chose shades of pink and white!
- Clear Balloon Tape Strip
- 3M Mini Decorating Clips (To help hold the arch to the wall)
- String to help hold the balloon tape to the 3M clips
- Assorted flowers
Instructions
Sometimes I think DIY explanations can overcomplicate things, so I’ll keep this nice and brief, because honestly the balloon tape really does all the work for you! Trust your gut and tweak as you go, and if you get stuck, refer to this DIY tutorial. (What I based mine off of.)
- Determine the size and shape of your arch. Measure the balloon tape strip accordingly.
- Blow up the balloons. One by one, insert the balloons into the tape strip. Vary up the colors if you choose. (Our balloons were a bit bigger so we went every other hole in the balloon strip.)
- Once your balloon strip is filled with balloons, adhere the 3M clips to the wall. Where there are open holes near where your 3M clips are, take the string and secure the balloon strip to the clips. We had about 6 clips total to create our arch.
- Once the balloon strip is in place, take your flowers and fill in the gaps to your eye’s desire!
To put together the entire balloon arch, it took about 3 hours. Blowing up the balloons was the hardest part!
See?! Super easy! And the end result was such an eye-catching and cool backdrop.
Here are some more photos from the day, if you’re curious how we brought the rest of the theme to life! A few details worth calling out:
- The invites and all signage was done by the Kailey Marie Designs, who I can’t recommend enough. (She is crazy talented and also did our wedding invitations years back!) I love how she tied in the signage and invites to one another — it all felt nice and cohesive.
- Our guest book and main activity was a “Baby’s First Alphabet Book”. This turned out SO CUTE. We printed each letter of the alphabet onto a sheet of paper, and each guest decorated a letter. Then we put all the finished letters together into a nice little book for the babies to enjoy in the future! You can find different options for printing the book on Etsy here.
A Whole Llama Love
Love you so much, Jessie and Tom. We can’t wait to meet the little llamas!
