October means one key thing: The start of cozy season.
While I love to embrace every season with decor, but there’s just something about the launch into the fall months that feels extra special. Perhaps it’s that October thru December marks the end of the year, or maybe it’s the dipping temperatures, but I love the hygge feeling that the great indoors brings when it’s paired with seasonal touches.
I’m the type of decorator who loves to find pieces that lean into a holiday or season, but don’t necessarily scream it. (Er…except for Christmas. I basically turn into Santa’s personal elf that time of year.) To be honest, while Halloween decorations are certainly so much fun, I do find an overload of it a little tacky sometimes. (Much to Doug’s dismay! If it were up to him our home would become a Haunted House, ha!) Instead, I love to lean into fall colors and classic touches that embrace the season without going too far overboard.
I do love some fun spooky touches, don’t get me wrong! But just a few are focused on any one fall holiday. This way, the decor can last far beyond the holiday at hand. A great example of this is decorative pumpkins — they’re great for Halloween and Thanksgiving — and I never feel pressure to remove them just because Halloween passes by.
Cozy Fall Decorating Ideas For The Home
With all that in mind, a word that I’d say I embrace during the October and November months is cozy. I love candles, deeper jewel tones, and nature-inspired items. If you’re like me, then this blog post is for you, as today I’m giving a little virtual photo tour of our home. I hope it can serve as some great, cozy fall decorating ideas for you! (Be sure to keep scrolling — after each room section I’ve provided key links + descriptions.)
Living Room Decor Highlights
I adore ournavy blue curtains with purple tassels — in fact, I also have them in pink — but decided to change up the color for the fall and winter seasons to embrace the cooler months. It’s amazing how changing up curtains can give a space a totally new look and feel! (Swing by this post to check out the pink curtains + how this room is usually styled in the Spring and Summer.)
Between our white Interior Define chairs (You can read a review here!) is a table that houses a Willow Decorative Vase with Dried Eucalyptus Bouquet. I love this vase because it’s a statement without being overpowering, and its perfect for any season but especially the fall with large stems that tie in fall colors. It has a handcrafted clay casting, surrounded by willow on the outside, making it a beautiful addition for any decor lover who loves touches of nature in their homes.
On the chairs are Lush Velvet Pillow Covers, which was another way that I tied in decor to embrace the fall months a bit more.
They’re elegant, are made of a super-soft velvet that feels like silk, and are made in a Fair Trade Certified facility! The colors in our living room are Dusty Blush & Golden Oak, which I mix and match frequently on the couch and chairs. Double bonus: They tie in the colors of theDried Eucalyptus Bouquet perfectly!
One quick item to point out is the Anecdote “Sweater Weather” Candle on our ottoman, which really lives up to the description of smelling like crisp air and chunky sweaters. I light this, and immediately feel so cozy
Flying Bats are flying on our walls, which I’ve used for a few years now and they’re the best way to decorate for Halloween.
They come in a pack of 56 in assorted sizes, and to adhere them you use the peel & stick adhesives provided in the pack. Super quick, super easy, and super festive! (These are one of the only items I’ll remove after Halloween has passed!)
On the mantle are Flora Taper Candle Holders paired with black candles. I love them together; they’re a fun combination for Halloween. What’s nice about these holders is that, while they certainly do fully embrace fall, you can easily pair them with a lighter colored candle and make them fitting for other seasons. I can see them paired with pink or white candles for Spring, or even green for the holiday season!
On our entry cabinet is a stoneware white pumpkin bowl that I got last year – a similar one is linked here – and it is a really nice, versatile piece that works in every room. For example, in the kitchen, I’ve had the lid open and put small decorative pumpkins in there; in the living room, I love it on top of some coffee table books as pictured. It’s the type of decor piece that will last years and years!
Kitchen & Dining Room Decor Highlights
On our kitchen island is a Wood Decor Bowl, which is a great item for year-round decor! You really can’t beat the price, either, especially since I can attest it’s sturdy and well made. It houses some small decorative pumpkins and gourds that I got from the local grocery store, which are the perfect accents inside the bowl for this time of year.
Hanging on our stove and frequenting our kitchen sink area are some Pumpkin Harvest Dish Towels. Dish towels are such a great way to add finishing touches for the kitchen. They’re fun, easy to change up, and always ready to be used!
On our dining room table is a rectangular decorative tray from Lulu & Georgia, which holds my Old Havana Pitcher and bright sunflowers. Is there anything more fall than sunflowers?! They’re such a bright, happy addition to this room.
Hanging on the back of our sunroom door is a Faux Eucalyptus Wreath, which looks beautiful year-round. It’s very real looking, too!
Last but not least….a preview of our front porch decorations! I still have some things to put up and tweaks to make. But I’m loving these large stacking pumpkins that we got at the Farmer’s Market last weekend. Eco-friendly and easy to style — Aren’t they great?!
