One of the biggest observations that I took away from Lollapalooza? Converse All Star sneakers are everything and everywhere.
You know those festival goers who dance without care, sing every lyric while flailing their arms, scream “I LOVE THIS SONG!” every other minute, and generally look ridiculous? I’m totally that girl.
Besides the occasional side glance from a judgmental stranger who I’d categorize as “boring”, the one peril of being a festival dancer is that my feet always hurt by the end of the event. Specifically with Lollapalooza, where you’re walking from one end of Grant Park to another all day, it’s not uncommon for me to quite literally limp along when the shows have wrapped up.
That’s where sneakers saved the day for me this year. In the past I’ve opted for flat sandals that offer little support and it’s no wonder that I’ve cursed the ground after all was said and done. But, another year, another Lolla, and I finally wised up with my festival fashion choice of Converse sneakers from DSW.
And you know what I noticed? I was the majority. It seemed like every other person was wearing Converse sneakers, too. This tells me a few things: 1. It was a great shoe choice, 2. The classics never go out of style, and 3. Festival fashion doesn’t have to portray “hippie” to be on point. (Although, don’t get me wrong, I’m always down for a fabulous floral headband and fringe purse.) With those cool DSW kicks I wore a simple black and white polka dot dress, which was a clutch choice because it was hot out, and threw my hair up in a braid-inspired pony tail. I was actually really proud of that pony – the braids throughout were so cute and the perfect way to freshen up an otherwise simple dress.
Festival fashion is always so fun, don’t you think? It’s quite literally an “anything goes” mentality, although I must say that the number of butt-cheeks-peeking-out-of-barely-there-shorts I saw from tweens was alarming. I mean, come on, I know it’s hot out but put some clothes on, girls! What ever happened to leaving a little to the imagination?
…Does this mean I’ve officially entered into mom-mode? Sorry I’m not sorry.
Back to Converse sneakers. They were a great choice, as was shopping at DSW for them, because they had a plethora of other festival-appropriate options that made it really hard to choose what I was going to wear. Adorable options are never a bad thing! Other great choices of the event? Seeing Broods, Alabama Shakes, and Alt J live. They all were so great – I’m endlessly impressed by bands that sounds as good, if not better, in person. That’s how music should be, in my opinion. Rock on, friends!
Thanks to Lauren Nolan for taking the outfit photos of me at Lolla!
Big thanks to DSW for sponsoring this post.
