Big Announcement: We Bought Our House! We’re officially homeowners!
<< Insert happy dance while parading around the kitchen here. >>
The funny thing about this announcement is that basically nothing will change. Ha! Why? Well, we bought the home we’re currently living in. Sooo….this is really just an announcement to tell you that we’ve acquired more debt and are now paying a mortgage instead of a landlord. 😉 Yeeehaw!
But, still. Exciting, right?! It means that, after nearly a year of things like cross-state moves, house renovations, and job changes, we’re planting some roots. Which feels equal parts surreal and exciting to say.
It just felt right to let you know about this decision, considering you’ve been with us throughout so many huge transitions over the past year!
We ultimately decided to buy for many reasons. As you may have read in prior posts, our house was a flip done by family members, and we were a big part of the renovation process. (Check out the before and after photos here – can you believe the transformation?!) We were cautious of buying at first because we had just made a massive move across state lines, and wanted to make sure this was exactly where we wanted to be in Michigan for the foreseeable future. But after living in our house since October, we’re confident this is exactly where we want to be for now. We love the house and neighborhood, and it really does feel like home to us.
To celebrate, I thought I’d introduce you to our house in a more formal manner. Here are some fun facts about it. (Side note: Should we name it?! We name our cars so it only seems fitting to name our house?! Things to consider.)
- It’s a quaint, traditional, 1950s bungalow.
- It has 3 bedrooms – one master, and two smaller ones that are Grace and Josephine’s – and 3 baths. (Two of the bathrooms were added in the renovation process.)
- It was a total fixer-upper! Before it was renovated, it hadn’t been updated since the 50s and was in pretty bad shape. There were actually raccoons living in the upstairs when the process first started – Yikes! This whole process has amazed me with how much you can update and change a house that has good bones. - The old back porch has been made into an enclosed sunroom, which is my favorite room in the house. It’s warm and bright and perfect for writing/reading in.
- One of the downfalls of the house is that our driveway is super tight. Within the first few weeks of living here, I scratched the side of our car on the house while trying to back out. I’ve since mastered the “tight space back up” but it’s been a process. Eek!
- We have an original wood-burning fireplace in our living room. This winter we had cozy fires almost every night and it was the ultimate form of hygge for me.
- Our little yard is so cute, and the girls have been really loving the spring weather and getting to run around in the grass while playing. No furniture out there currently – have been prioritizing furnishing the indoors – but that’s next on the list so we can stop sitting in the grass while eating dinner outside. 😉
- There’s a dirt patch area behind our garage that we’re going to build a garden out of this summer.
One thing is certain:
This whole process has really ignited a new passion for all things home and interior decor for me! I have lots of home related content to come as I’ve FINALLY finished some of the main rooms. (Learning curve: What a process decorating is, especially when moving from an apartment to a house!)
On the docket for home-related content: Tomorrow I’m sharing some of my key learnings from being a homeowner so far + next week I’m doing a full living room decor reveal! (I’m biased but the living room turned out SO CUTE and colorful.) Be sure to keep following along, and message me if you have any specific content you’d like to see! xx
