Happy Monday after Super Bowl Sunday!
I actually really like watching football, but it’s hard for me to get into the game unless I have a vested interest in a team. Unless my beloved Detroit Lions are playing in the big game (Sadly, they never are), I typically am indifferent as to who wins and admittedly watch it for the half time show and ads. Both of which I find so much fun! For one, who doesn’t love a great concert?! (Saw so many posts on social media last night saying, “Oh look there’s a football game during the Justin Timberlake concert”, and laughed because that was so my mentality while watching!) And, from a marketer’s perspective, the Super Bowl is the ultimate stage for creativity, so I love seeing how brands shine on this day.
I’ve been holed up all weekend with a bad case of the flu/cold (It’s bad, guys), and the girls are still coughing themselves, so we stayed back in lieu of going to our friend’s Super Bowl party. (FOMO, but the sickness is real.) But the ads did a good job at bringing some smiles to my face. Below are my picks for the best ads from Super Bowl 2018.

NFL
Best thing about touchdowns? The victory dances. I loved this ad best it took football promotion to a totally new and unexpected level, and beyond that, it made football a heck of a lot more appealing to casual watchers like me.
U.S. Olympics
This Lindsey Vonn ad was everything. So motivating. Watching this makes me want to get off my butt and go run a marathon. Or at least stop using “I’m a new mom!” as an excuse to start to work out again. #BabySteps
Toyota
Another Olympic-themed ad, and this one brought out a few tears for me. Since becoming a mother, I have such a sweet spot for anything showing kids growing into driven, prosperous people who beat the odds. Gah, my heart!
Doritos Blaze Vs. Mountain Dew
Gotta admit, I’m not a huge fan of either of these products, but this ad made me want to indulge. I mean, come on, Morgan Freeman, Peter Dinklage, Missy Ellliot and Busta Rhymes all in one rap battle? Gold.
Amazon
Alexa loses her voice, and the result is hysterical.
Tide
This campaign was genius! The brand had 4 total in the Super Bowl, and each one was so much fun. What I loved about them was how clever the big game tie in was. A lot of people are like me and watch the Super Bowl for the ads, and the brand was able to seamlessly insert themselves into pretty much every ad watched by means of clean clothes. So good.
