There are many truths in life. Grass is green. The sky is blue. Blank NYC has some of the best distressed denim jeans ever. (Read on for why!)
Another one? The March transition season in the Midwest is tough.
Let’s take this week as an example. Yesterday it was snowing, and today it’s 60 degrees and raining. In the midwest you’re not *really* able to enjoy outside yet, but it’s nice enough to feel like you should. Especially after a long winter, like we had!
I tried to be a hero yesterday and take Grace and Jo to the park because we were so excited that it wasn’t freezing out, and ended up with two kids covered in mud. Covered. Mud on their hands, face, pants, hair…everywhere. Definitely waiting until things dry up a bit to try that again. Which hopefully will be this weekend…or maybe next month? YA NEVER KNOW.
Side note — does anyone else feel like they always get sick this time of year?! I’ve been battling a never-ending cold that has evolved from laryngitis (could barely speak last week) to a full blown cold where I’m coughing every other minute. It’s pretty gross. I think the only cure is Vitamin D and thus #FLORIDA in exactly 17 days and 5 hours from the moment I’m typing this. But who’s counting?!
Anyways. The weather isn’t the only unpredictable element to work with. Dressing can be a doozy, too. Which is why on an average day, I typically reach for an outfit like this for those transition days. Jeans and sneakers, with a coat and scarf because surviving this thing means embracing layers fully.
Outfit Details (And why Blank NYC has some of the best distressed denim jeans EVER)
Here, I’m wearing my favorite Blank NYC distressed denim jeans. I’ve had these for years and they just keep getting better and better. (Check out this post from forever ago, where I talked about this pair!) The denim is a little stretchy, and thus amazingly comfortable. I wear them dressed up with heels, or down with sneakers, and regardless of what I pair them with I love the casual chic look they bring to an outfit. They fit perfectly, too! (For reference, I’m 5/10 and usually wear a 27. They’re true to size.) I even wore them a lot while pregnant with Josephine because they were one of the only pair of jeans that fit me while non-pregnant and in the first half of pregnancy — that’s how comfortable the stretch denim is!
Swing by this link to check out Blank’s selection. Here is my exact pair of jeans in these photos. They’re only $88 – a great price, especially considering how much you’ll wear them!
I paired my distressed jeans with my VEJA sneakers, which I can’t recommend enough. You guys know I love these bad boys – I did a full review post on these shoes here – and this will be one of many times you’ll see them on the blog because I’m addicted.
Other builds were my leather coat (mine is vintage, however, Madewell has a similar option that I love), casual scoop neck black t-shirt, lightweight scarf, and the Starburst Coin Pendant + Luca necklaces layered underneath. I also wore a scrunchie in my hair, which I felt complimented the high ponytail nicely.
Jo’s day care teacher said I looked like a “modern day 90’s girl”, and you know what? THANK YOU.
