I used to believe that deer heads + antlers were reserved for cabins, winter homes, or bachelor pads. They were not something I considerd when looking at decor, predominately because I always thought of deer heads in conjunction with dark wood, deep reds & thick surrounding fabrics. Being one to lean toward a light color palette while decorating, this was never my style.
Which brings me to a recently-discovered revelation. I am totally game (no pun intended) for this look, but it’s with a catch (pun possibly intended). I love deer heads + antlers when they are used with white.
Multiple colors, sizes, & shapes of antlers paired with white paint + accessories are the perfect compliment for wall space. I love how the above room is decorated; they frame not only the photos but the desk & rug, making the whole room “pop”.
My favorite white + deer look is that of a single piece used against a dark wall. When used as a room’s focal point, it creates an immediate hierarchy for the eye to follow.
How else would you style a deer head or antlers? Are you a fan of white as the focus?
As you ponder, I will leave you with one more thought…
When all else fails, throw a scarf on it.

I think it’s cute! My friend has one of the old paper animal heads from urban outfitters in her apartment. I can’t find it online now but I remember being surprised that I liked it when she first put it up!
em, check out this etsy shop… they have a ton of awesome options: http://www.etsy.com/shop/WhiteFauxTaxidermy?ref=seller_info_count
So totally agree. NEVER liked the look. My thing is, I don’t want there to be an confusion as to whether it is a real dead carcass on my wall, or chic decor. I def agree must be all white. I think West Elm had a few I totally fell for.
I love these! I would totally hang some in my bachelorette pad! I’ve seen them painted in gold, teal, coral etc and they are really cute!
Moose and Deer heads generally make me think of a Ski Lodge in Aspen, but this is really cool decor! And the scarf is just adorable
Check this out… My friend totally just did this:: Missmadisonscharmedlife.blogspot.com
I’m not so brave or decorator-savvy.
Ha! I love that she dressed up the deer. Too funny — and thanks for sharing!
I like the look of white antlers for sure….especially in a dark wall. It creates so much drama and intensity.
