I love a good rainy day.
To me, there’s nothing like the steady drum of the pitter-patter-pitter of rain falling outside, while I’m cozied up inside. It’s the ultimate cozy feeling; where on sunny days I want to go-go-go and feel guilty being inside for even a small amount of time, a rainy day provides the perfect excuse to cozy up, guilt free, and enjoy being home.
Buuuut, too much of a good thing can be bad. There are times, particularly in the thick of Spring when it feels like it’s been raining for days on end, when a rainy day makes me go absolutely stir crazy. How do people in Seattle do it?! (Pause button: Is the “rain all the time” rumor even true about Seattle? Calling for a friend.) Everything in moderation, I suppose!
On those stir-crazy days in particular, it takes me being extra conscious of being positive and beating the rainy day blues. You know what I’m talking about, right? That feeling where you feel like you may…I don’t know…screaaaaam….if the sun doesn’t come out RIGHT MEOW.
Getting enough vitamin D is a real thing, my friends. Especially after a long winter. Here are a few tips on keeping things sunny side up, even when the rays aren’t shining.
- Get Out Of The House – When I’m feeling stir crazy, going basically anywhere always helps. Places where I can always find something we need, like the grocery store or Target, are sure bets. But, especially with Gracie and Jo involved, going to more hands-on places like the museum or a play place does wonders because it lets them run off energy. Sometimes I’ll even throw on a fabulous outfit, like the one pictured above with my favorite ombre maxi skirt (Similar here and here), just because!
- Be Productive – I always find that rainy days are perfect for this! Especially when they’re on the weekends, a rainy day is the best excuse to get caught up on life to-do’s that I’ve been putting off for forever. I’ll clean the apartment, blog, call friends that I haven’t talked to in a while, or even organize photos on my iPhone.
- Netflix and Chill – It’s a thing, and it’s amazing. My personal Netflix and chill days have gotten significantly less since having kids, but I will tell you that I em-braced doing it for hours and hours back in the day. Now it’s more like Sesame Street-for-however-long-it’ll-hold-attention-and-chill, with toys thrown about the living room, but hey it counts!
- Enjoy Being Still – The girls are both great sleepers and love their nap time, so on days when we’re cooped up indoors, I’ll nap when they do. It’s lovely. If sleep isn’t in order, I love to read, or honestly just enjoy being quiet in the moments I can. (They’re rare, so they’re truly enjoyed!)
- Practice Something New – What have you been wanting to try or do for a while that you haven’t been able to? What can you practice to continually get better at? For me, it’s photography. I have re-learning Spanish on my list of things to dive into one day too!
