Today, I’m so excited to kick off my Holiday Gift Guide 2019 with picks for book lovers! I’ve been hard at work on posts that are packed with really amazing gift suggestions to help you shop for – quite literally – everyone on your list! The posts are going live from now until Thanksgiving week, so be sure to keep checking in regularly. All posts will be housed under the “Holiday Gift Guide” section for easy reference!
I think it’s a universal truth that holding a good, ol fashioned book in your hands is such a wonderful feeling.
Books are some of my favorite items to gift, not only because there are endless options, but because you can really personalize a book to the recipient. Whenever someone gives me a book they picked out just for me or recommend, I take added care to really dive in and appreciate it.
Added bonus: I’m a huge fan of leveraging coffee table books, and really books in general, with interior decor. Whether you buy it for the pictures, or intend to curl up for hours on a weekend evening, you can literally never go wrong with gifting a great book!
20 Interesting Books To Gift To A Book Lover
Below is a roundup of 15 books that I either own or plan on gifting to others this year. These are ones that I’ve learned a lot from, are filled with eye candy, find inspirational, and are ideal to consider for any book lover in your life! (Those with asterisks would be great gifts for men, too!)
The Old Farmer’s Almanac 2020*
Long range weather predictions and a dose of humor, America’s oldest continuously published periodical is just plain fun. This would be perfect as a stocking stuffer, but it’s also great for that person who’s notoriously hard to shop for. It’s the type of book that’s a conversation starter, is interesting, and just the right amount of weird.
The Bucket List: 1,000 Adventures Big and Small*
I got Doug this book years back, and it’s one that we both flip through regularly. It’s fun to use as a brainstorm and daydream launch point for future travel plans and bucket list making!
Ze French Do It Better
The keys to a life well-lived, the French way. This book has all the most coveted French secrets spilled, so that readers can integrate elements of an iconic French wardrobe, infallible recipes, life-enhancing rituals, cult products, and personal style tips into their daily routine.
The French Beauty Solution
In my humble opinion, every woman needs this book! Mathilde Thomas – cofounder of Caudalie – shares simple, natural, time-tested beauty secrets that she learned growing up in France. Any woman can use these tips & techniques to look and feel younger, healthier and more radiant without harsh products or drastic procedures. I’ve read and re-read this book and continually use it as a resource!
Joni Mitchell Morning Glory On The Vine
This book is as beautiful to page through as the words are to your heart! A gorgeous compendium of Joni Mitchell’s handwritten lyrics and drawings, originally handcrafted as a gift for a select group of friends in 1971 and now available to the public for the first time. Personally, I know only a few Joni Mitchell songs, but this book makes me want to curl up by the fire and get to know her so much better.
The Little Book of Hygge
Why are Danes the happiest people in the world? The answer, says Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, is Hygge. This book shares what, exactly, hygge is, and how to obtain it for yourself.
It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be*
Doug and I both LOVE this book. It was written by an ad-industry professional and has great advice on how to *actually* make it. It’s a super quick and digestible read that is fun to reference again and again.
Iris Apfel Accidental Icon
Gah, I just LOVE Iris Apfel. She’s always been so unapologetically herself, and her loud, colorful style teaches us to step outside the box more. This is the perfect book for a style lover!
She Can Really Lay It Down
A book that celebrates 50 incredible women who shredded, sang, and stormed the stage with ferocity and passion. Filled with lots of girl power!
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*
The title pretty much says it all! In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be “positive” all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people.
Pocket Michelle Obama Wisdom
How do I love thee, Michelle? Let me count the ways. This book is filled with some of her most impactful quotes. A quick read and one that is sure to motivate again and again.
Big Magic
I actually got this for Christmas a few years back, and it still stands as one of my favorite books. It’s a must read for anyone, but particularly those who love to connect with their inner creativity and be inspired. This book is truly such a joy!
Gray Malin Italy
Talk about eye candy! This is one of my favorite coffee table books because it’s so visually appealing, and makes any room more bright and colorful.
If I Live To Be 100*
More than fifty extraordinary Americans, who have all celebrated their one hundredth birthday, share a century of insights. I haven’t read this one yet, but how powerful is this concept?!
Why We Sleep: Unlocking The Power Of Sleep and Dreams*
This was recommended to me by a friend, and even though I’m halfway through, I have to say it’s FASCINATING. It shares all about the importance of sleep, and its power on our health. I’d recommend this to any adult, particularly a millennial, who we all know tend to be overstimulated with technology!
In The Company Of Women
Interviews of amazing women, making a book filled with inspirational quotes and advice. I honestly pick this up weekly, and have a ton of pages bookmarked, to reference regularly for inspiration!
Living With Plants*
The perfect book for the plant lover in your life! This book showcases different ways you can “green” up your space, and how to best care for common indoor plants. It’s filled with lots of great tips and tricks that I’ve learned a lot from!
How To Be A Wild Flower
I love this book for so many reasons. It’s visually appealing, filled with lots of great sayings and quotes, and always leaves me wanting to channel my inner flower child. A perfect, lighthearted book for anyone who throws a peace sign your way on the regular.
Bad Girls Throughout History
…Because, despite what Santa says, the bad girls are always the best ones. 😉 This unique book is complete with 224 pages featuring watercolor illustrations and short essays detailing the exploits of 100 revolutionary women that changed history.
Activist*
Another one I haven’t read yet, but I’m hoping to soon! This no doubt serves as a great coffee table book but also one that is filled with inspiration. It’s all about how activism begins in small ways and in unexpected places. In it, over forty activists from Billie Jean King to Bernie Sanders and Angela Davis to Edward Snowden recount the experiences that sparked their journeys and share the beliefs that keep them going.
