Do you ever find yourself gravitating toward a certain era of time? The fashion, the music, the culture. It all just kind of…calls to you.
I find that happening all the time with the 1970s, particularly with style. When I’m looking for inspiration, I look to this decade first. There’s just something about that era that I find so interesting and energizing.
Why I Love 1970s Women’s Fashion
It was a time of pushing boundaries. Skirts got shorter, boots got taller, sunglasses got bigger. Layers, boho-chic, berets, bangles, dramatic sleeves, minimalism, leather, details. T-shirt’s weren’t just underwear anymore. It was this really interesting time when vintage staples, like black turtlenecks, were everywhere but new fashions and ways to wear them also emerged. Individuality was embraced. You could glow like a disco ball one day and embrace your natural side with no makeup the other.
Flares are my preferred way to wear jeans. Floral prints are my jam. Have I told you lately how much I love athleisure, especially on a casual work from home day? Scarves and I have a love-love relationship. Even my home decor style — which I’m finding to be evolving with our home — is starting to resemble the 70s with lots of wicker accents and bold colors.
I guess it comes down to this: I’m not saying that my soul once lived in that era, but I’m not not saying that either. 😉
Let’s chat this outfit for a minute.
I’m someone who loves jeans in general, but when it comes to flare jeans, I can’t get enough. I love the retro-inspired look they bring to an outfit, and I personally find them to be super flattering. Pair them with a floral, flirty top and it’s the perfect combination for embracing the 70s vibe that I love so much.
These flares are from BCBG and unfortunately I’m unable to find them online, however, here are a few similar pairs that are super cute: FRAME “Le High Flare” Jeans + Lovestory Flare Jeans + Chloe Flare Jeans.
The top I’m wearing is the Lioness Sweethearts Top. It’s romantic, a little bit flirty, and all things feminine. I love it for being sweet yet feminine, and can we talk about those sleeves?! So fun.
Alright, so, where does one go to shop 70s fashion? I think the better question is where don’t you go! I see elements of 1970s women’s fashion almost everywhere, especially now that bohemian tie-ins are becoming increasingly popular. That said, I do have a few go-to brands that always deliver on the best elements of 70s style, in a modern way. Here they are! (I’m clearly a floral lover, no?! Ha!)

The 70s was when I was a young adult adult living in Detroit, then New York, then finally LA. Great time for fashion in all three places and a fun time to be young and adventurous. When I go to Free People or Antrhopologie I feel like I’m in my old closet. Also my fave Johnny Was is a time capsule right down to the accessories including scarves!! Nice job on this!!
