Whelp. That was fun. I just got back from what was a total whirlwind of a weekend with girlfriends in Mexico. One of my best friends from college, Lauren, is getting married in April and so a group of us made our way south to celebrate in the sunshine.
Those weekend are always the best because they’re filled with good ‘ol girlfriend time. The perfect mix of “me time” and relaxation. But they always go by so fast, don’t they?! It’s like as soon as you get off the plane, you’re getting back on. And my plane landed in -7 degree weather. So…that was a rude welcome back, Detroit.
…Which is why I’m itching for another trip! Luckily we have a few on the horizon. Our family always visits Florida in April, and Lauren’s wedding is in Austin, so with those two warm-weather destinations only a few months away the countdown has begun!
I love shopping vacation style during this time of year for a few reasons:
1. Prepping for vacation wear is so much fun and makes the trip that much more exciting;
2. As the
3. Vacation gear is always a great investment because items are always a perfect prelude to the warmer months ahead. Bring on the sunshine!
Here are 10 vacation style items that I’ve been eyeing lately!
Fjallraven ‘Kanken’ Water Resistant Backpack
Ok. SO. This bag is AMAZING. I love the minimalistic, Scandinavian design, and yet the color options bring a great pop of personality. (I’m eyeing the pink/blue combo!) These backpacks hold a lot, and are water resistant, making them perfect for the beach and beyond. Check out more Fjallraven bags here – they’ve got lots of great options for men and women!
Matiko Wooden Heel Mules
HOW CUTE ARE THESE?! I love them in white or leopard, though honestly any color is adorable. The wooden heel really makes these heels. I can see them being great for a night out or even a casual dinner date.
Levi’s 501 Shorts and Jeans
It’s no secret that Levi’s are back, and in a big way. I love Levi’s for those casual, go-with-the-flow days where you simply don’t want to put much thought into an outfit. (AKA the perfect beach day!) Pair jean shorts or pants with literally anything — a simple white T, your favorite bathing suit, or – and you’ll look great. If you want to get really fancy, throw a scarf in your hair, or pair the look with wicker anything. Flawless, baby. Flawless.
Wicker/Straw/Raffia Accessories
Nothing says “Beach day” quite like an accessory made from the elements. My favorite way to wear the look is via a large-brim raffia hat, similar to what Hat Attack features. I’m specifically loving their Braid Continental Hat or the Starry Night Sun Hat. Another one I’m loving is the Halogen Panama hat, and you can’t beat that price!
Birkenstock Sandals
1998 Emily is like, YEEEES! 2019 Emily is like, YEEEEEEEEES! Win, win. I’ll be getting these bad boys in white.
Bracelets For Layering
Layered bracelets are such a great way to add style to even an outfit comprised of just a swimsuit! Some of my favorite brands for layering include Gorjana and Sashi. Specific bracelets I’m loving right now are the Gorjana Power Gemstones (Grab a few colors!) and the Sashi Tilu Mermaid set. For a chunkier look, I’m loving the Ridge Cuff Bracelet and the Baublebar Lucite set.
Koa Beach Shirt
….To pair with said Levi’s. Or even to wear on its own! How cool is this!? Very Free People, only half of the cost. Boom Shaka Laka.
Veja V-10 Sneakers
Gimme, gimme, gimme. I have my classic Converse sneakers, which I always love, but lately I’ve been wanting to amp things up a bit. I love the Veja sneakers style — they’re retro, and I like that there are so many options in coloring for the “V”. I’m specifically eyeing the white/blush option (I know..shocker on preferring that color combo, ha!) or the classic black/white combo.
Le Specs Eyewear
Sunglasses, of course, are a must in the sunshine. A newer-to-me brand I’ve been loving lately is Le Specs. They have so many fun options, and for a really great price point. (I always end up sitting on or losing mine, so this is key for me!)
Patterned One-Piece Suits
I was ALL about one piece suits last year, and am continuing the trend! All the one pieces that I currently own are solid colors, so this season I’m looking for a pattern to mix things up. J.Crew has so many cute one pieces right now; the blue one I have from them (Pictured in this post) is so flattering, so I’m eyeing a similar fit. I really love the fruit pattern on this option, and the floral pattern on this one. (All suits linked here are on major sale!)
Do you have any warm-weather vacations coming up? What vacation-style items are you eyeing right now? Would love to hear in the comments!

Hey Emily! Looks like you’re living your best life and killin’ it – way to go, lady! Miss seeing you and your way-chic style around the office. I’d love your thoughts/recos on palazzo pants for travel. I’m prepping for 2 big trips this year (Mexico & Egypt) and all the Pinterest board browsing is making me think I could pull off a good palazzo pant in either locale, I’m just having trouble figuring out where to buy a decent pair that will hold up to international travel. I started with Anthro but the fabrics have me worried I won’t be able to enjoy myself for fear of tearing/staining. Any tips??
JACKIE!!! It’s so wonderful to hear from you! And, how exciting that you’re going to Mexico and Egypt! Both are some of my favorite destinations but I have to say, Egypt was one of the coolest places I’ve ever been. You’ll love it.
Anyways — Palazzo Pants. First of all, YES. They’re so flattering and I love the many ways you can wear them, especially while traveling. I’d recommend to go with a cropped leg with those destinations because they’ll be warmer. Pay attention to the fabrics, too! (Something easily steamed or that you an literally throw into your bag and go would be best.) Did a quick browse online and here are a few that I’d recommend to consider: Madewell Crop Wide Legs http://bit.ly/2DuAspX (Love the high waist on these — haven’t tried them on but Madewell never disappoints in terms of fit.); English Factory Stripe Wide Leg Pants http://bit.ly/2DtEXRC (This brand is always so fun and chic, and this look screams “vacation”! They also look super comfy); Halogen Wide Leg Crop Pants http://bit.ly/2UaxrjT (The bow brings a nice feminine touch!) This Reformation pair is similar http://bit.ly/2UbMlWX (Browse Reformation for a bit — they have some really cute options and that brand always delivers on flattering fit!)
I hope that is helpful! Email me if you want to chat more or want ideas for more options. Love helping with stuff like this.
Also – HAVE FUN!!! xx
