California Knows How To Party

You know those trips where you return asking yourself what just happened? That describes my L.A. adventure in a nutshell. It was exhausting, thrilling, fun, intense, and stressful at the same time – a complete whirlwind that included working non-stop, exploring Paramount Studios, and shaking hands with celebrities.

For those that may not know, I’m work in social media at DDB, an advertising agency in Chicago. The main account that I work on is McDonald’s, in which I’m in charge of managing their Facebook and YouTube accounts. Recently they launched a new product line, the Premium McWrap, and threw a Hollywood launch party in its honor. I was thrilled to tag along and help work the event, in which some key highlights are below!

Highlight I :: Paramount Pictures Studios
Paramount Pictures Studios is a campus-like production house that harbors stage after stage where movie and television shows are filmed. It was so cool to see the behind-the-scenes set up of how the industry works. Every staging area is completely different – we’re talking one area that looks like New York City streets and another that comprises the halls of Glee (We saw a few cast members hanging out!)
Coming from the midwest, I haven’t been exposed to much of this industry, so I was utterly fascinated with our casual strolls past directors huddled in brainstorming sessions, actors taking breaks outside while eating donuts (What?! They’re people too?!), and crew members goofing around. Every time I saw a peek of a familiar face from one tv show or another, I played it cool and smiled casually like it was no big deal, but inside I was freakingout, because I’m really just a nerd like that.
Highlight II :: The Premium McWrap Launch Party
I wish I could take credit for the amazement that was this set up, but I can’t. I was merely a team member giddy and totally enthralled at how it all flawlessly came together. The “farmers market” theme was implemented perfectly – Delicate light strands lined the sky, wood tables with candles and flowers filled the venue, and produce & flower tents lined the exterior (Guests got a little tote bag in which they could take fresh veggies and flowers home with them).
While it was decorated adorably, it was no ho-hum event. The party was filled with celebrities – Khloe Kardashian, Scott Disick, Zach Efron, Lisa Rinna, Tatyana Ali, Kyle Richards & Brandi Glanville to name a few – and DJ’s and performers rocked all night. I’d be remiss if I didn’t note the whole reason why we were all there — the McWraps. They are so good. Really though, try one!

Highlight III :: Working The Green Carpet
One of my key roles at the event was to greet celebrities on the green carpet and encourage them to share their party experience on social media. It. Was. Awesome. My favorites were Kyle Richards (Yes! Mauricio was with her and he’s even more handsome in person) and Ross Mathews. Both were really laid back and approachable.

I wish I had the opportunity to get more pictures, but our team was running around the whole time. I was able to snag one worth sharing….

Oh heeey Scott Disick! 😉

That’s hilarious that you met Scott! I would love to work in social media someday, I’ve been looking for open opportunities (sadly there isn’t much out there with our crappy job market). Love your red carpet photo 🙂

ummm you have the coolest job ever!! What a fun event. I would have had my jaw on the ground the entire time.

oh, and I love that your main account is mcdonalds because (and this may sound weird…) I have never been more in love with mcdonalds than I have been this past year. There is zero western food in my city and it’s sooo worth the hour and a half train ride and long taxi ride to get a double cheeseburger. seriously. The first time my friends and I got mcdonalds in Asia, one of my guys friends cried. So yeah, mcdonalds holds a special place in my heart haha.

What an awesome work trip–you go, rockstar! The event looks amazing, and I just need to know–how was Scott in real life? I don’t watch much Kardashian shitz (I really can’t stand them) but I’m really curious!

What a super exciting experience for you! You really do have the best job ever! I would love to meet Khloe K, she seems so down to earth – plus her shoe collection is INSANE.
Whenever I go to MacDonalds it’s always a cheeseburger and my partner is baffled – but they really are that good, might have to try one of these new wraps though, LOVE WRAPS. I’m sure they’ll launch them in the UK.

This looks like such an amazing trip. So many people come to CA and don’t even get to see a celebrity and end up disappointed. Glad you got the full LA experience. It’s so fun to see bloggers in different environments than you are used to seeing them in.

OH my goodness- I am so jealous of your trip and job! I work in Marketing/Social Media, but in the Chicago burbs in nonprofit (although I used to work at Starcom a couple years back! The coolest thing I got to partake in was a private Backstreet Boys concert lol.)

Wow Em, this is so cool and I absolutely love the decor. You pretty much have my dream job so I love hearing about your professional adventures. AND I love grilled chicken wraps from McDonald’s haha. I sub in plain mustard for the ranch sauce and they become a decently healthy option for eating on the go! I will look for these in Canada.
